On-scalp MEG

On-scalp MEG at NatMEG

We are excited to announce that NatMEG is currently in the process of procuring an internationally competitive whole-head on-scalp MEG system that will be installed during the second half of 2022. The new osMEG system will use optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) sensors, a new type of quantum enhanced sensors that can measure closer to the scalp than conventional MEG sensors. Simulations have shown that by coming closer to the head (and the neural sources therein) osMEG can achieve higher sensitivty and spatial precision compared to conventional MEG.

The new system will be integrated into the existing NatMEG infrastructure and will be made available to users during in 2023.

If you want to learn more about this exciting new technology check out the talks from our on-scalp MEG symposium held on May 3rd 2022 where leading experts in the field discussed the latest developments in instrumentation, methods and applications.

The on-scalp MEG platform at NatMEG is funded by a grant from Vetenskapsrådet, the Swedish Research Council.
